Comite Noviembre seeks boricuas making a difference in their communities

Lo mejor de nuestra comunidad awards Through Lo Mejor de Nuestra Comunidad award, Comité Noviembre in New York City recognizes outstanding individuals who are the unsung heroes of our community and who are making a difference in the Puerto Rican communities of this country. Puerto Ricans whose pride in their heritage and strength of character have empowered themselves and inspired others to make significant impact on the community are recognized. The recipients of this award are chosen by Comité Noviembre from nominations submitted by the community. These individuals are honored at the kick-off celebration of Puerto Rican Heritage Month. The nomination criteria and form for Lo Mejor de Nuestra Comunidad award is now available at Comite Noviembre's website. The deadline for nominations to be received by CN is Wednesday, September 23rd. Recipients of the award will be informed by Monday, September 28th. The demise of newspapers is not overrated

Featured Commentary Late last year Entrepreneur magazine predicted that newspapers would be extinct within ten years. While this might be something you can't really see when you consider the Darth Vader-like death grip El Nuevo Dia has on the market here, elsewhere, however, this prediction is advancing quite nicely, thank you very much. The last two months have seen a bloodbath at some of America's largest newspaper publishers, with substantial job cuts hitting a number of papers, including a high proportion of newsroom positions. The layoffs have visited McClatchy, Media General, the Tribune Co., the Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post, among others. For those of you keeping score at home, here are how the layoffs stacked up: Media General got things started in late May with its announcement that it would cut 810 positions across its properties in the southeast.
