Felicidades to Obama and Fortuño

Puerto Rico Sun congratulates Barack Obama, the president-elect of the United States.

As a boricua, it is amazing and inspiring to see that the first African-American has been elected to serve this country. I am happy I was able to witness this historical moment.

Yes we can!

Congratulations to Resident Commissioner Luis Fortuño, the governor-elect of Puerto Rico too. Fortuño of the pro-statehood New Progressive Party defeated incumbent Governor Anibal Acevedo Vila of the pro-commonwealth Popular Democratic Party.

Both Obama and Fortuño ran with a message for change.

Hopefully, they both will bring real positive change. I am optimistic.

We will be watching you. -- Clarisel Gonzalez

For those in Puerto Rico, remember to vote for governor there.

It’s the economy, “¿estúpido”?

"It’s the economy, stupid," was a phrase in American politics widely used during the 1992 presidential campaign. Apparently it has been adopted by the residents of Puerto Rico. The economy seems to have become the major concern for Puerto Ricans for the current year. An October 2008 telephone poll of residents of the island showed that 61% of respondents, 6 out of every ten consider the economy the biggest problem facing Puerto Rico today. Crime and Drugs was ranked the second issue in importance, picked by 16% of those polled.
